Fandom Alignment Quiz

What is this quiz?

This test is meant to assess your values and beliefs regarding fandoms and fanworks. You'll be presented a series of statements which you can choose to Agree or Disagree with. Each answer will add or subtract from your score. Based on your score, you'll be given a percentage on where you lean on the alignments.

If you think you might get lost on some terms or statements then I suggest having this on standby Fanlore Wiki.

There are questions in the test.

What do the alignments mean?

Based on my personal hypothesis/googling, I have come to realize that the biggest factors that affect how a person interacts with other fans and fanworks are Source Purity and Rules for Engagement.

These are the two axes that the test will attempt to place you on.

Source Purity: How strictly a person adheres to canon material or fan interpretation.

Rules for Engagement: Whether you believe there should be limits to how and what fanworks are made and who can participate in a fandom.

Canon Purist

Someone who prefers fanworks that don't deviate from the source material and will not entertain interpretations nor theories that lack canon evidence.

Purity

<----->

Fanon Rebel

Someone who bends canon or disregards it for their own sake and prefers exploring ideas outside of the realm of source.

Pro

Believes that anyone can participate in a fandom and post whatever fanworks they please without scrutiny on the basis of creative freedom.

Rules

<----->

Anti

Believes that fandom should have boundaries in regards to the type of fans and fanworks allowed on the basis of fandom unity and safety.

(I'm aware of the (multiple) connotations of "Pro vs Anti" within fandoms and I'm asking you to forget those specific definitions in favor of the ones I listed. This axis covers multiple topics from shipping to gatekeeping so I'm just using these terms as a catch all.)

Why is this a thing?

I thought "What if there was a political compass test equivalent for fandoms?" and the autism took me here. I tried to be neutral as possible and account for the extreme of both ends. Do whatever you want with the results I don't think being on either end of these axes is a bad thing.

If you feel like your results don't represent your beliefs/the questions aren't good enough/whatever feedback you have about this test can be posted on my Guestbook or shoot an email at weeble69@protonmail.com
